COMMENTS: This delightful fan palm is remarkable for the long shag of hair that clothes the stem, even when the plant is young. It is very slow-growing, however, and large specimens fetch a handsome price. Old man palm is no more demanding than other members of the same genus, and adapts well to alkaline soils and coastal exposures.
